Running a business is tough – rewarding but tough. Quite often I feel like I am continually chasing my tail and never catching up; complete one task and there are a million others waiting in the wings.
What I never expected from running my own business, (especially when Global OHS first started) was the requirement to become multiskilled and learn to keep all the different parts of the business running smoothly. To illustrate this point, I love the day job, just not quite so much on the invoicing and finance side and I never expected it to be so lonely.
I chose to work hard and long hours but when I started I didn’t understand how lonely it could be and how (unless you have your own business) people just don’t quite get it. This for me was the beauty of the Director’s Hub; it provided a safe and confidential environment for me to discuss my issues with other people who faced the same ones and to help them overcome the ones that I had faced. My business has grown over the last eight years and I am no longer so alone; I have a cracking team behind me but the Director’s Hub still offers me the space to step outside of the business, re-frame and re-think where I want to go both professionally and personally as it taught me it not all just about work.
I highly rate the Director’s Hub and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for more than a sales platform; to put this in some context, I joined nearly every networking club / organisation when I started, desperately searching for that ‘angle’ to generate new business and to succeed. The Directors Hub is the only one I still attend and am a member of, which I think speaks volumes in itself. If you are looking for a high pitched sales networking club, then I doubt this is for you. If, however you are looking to grow, to succeed and develop lasting friendships along the way then you have found what you are looking for.
Since joining the Hub success now looks very different to me and to quote John Wooden;
“Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable.”
