Quirks are part of the founder package.
Founder Quirks: Why Self-Awareness Beats Being “Normal”
The problem isn’t having quirks. It’s pretending they don’t affect everyone else.
Every founder has quirks. You might change direction mid-week, go quiet under pressure, or praise in public but criticise in private (or the other way round). Whether you realise it or not, those habits shape your culture faster than any values poster on the wall.
Aware, not perfect
The best leaders don’t try to be “normal”. They try to be aware. Name your quirks, keep the useful ones and put guardrails around the expensive ones.
If you’re an ideas machine, build a simple decision filter before your team starts working on version seven.
If you’re obsessed with detail, stop redoing work your team could own.
One powerful question
Ask the people you trust: “When do I make your job harder without realising?” It can feel uncomfortable, but that single question can save a fortune in friction, frustration and wasted time.
Quirks aren’t the enemy. Unmanaged quirks are.
Try this: pick one quirk you know you’ve got, ask a trusted colleague how it lands, and commit to one small guardrail this week. Want a sounding board? Bring it to your next Hub meeting for honest feedback from people who get it.
